This WEEK IN OUR WRITER'S CLASS GROUP WE WILL ON;

MondayIdentify the parts of speech including the noun, pronoun (type and case), verb (type and tense), adverb, adjective, preposition, conjunction (type), gerund, participle, infinitive, and article.    

Tuesday: Identify the sentence parts: complete subject, simple subject, complete predicate, verb (transitive and intransitive), direct object, indirect object, prepositional phrase (adjective or adverb), and object of preposition. 

Wednesday: Identify the clauses (independent, dependent), sentence type (simple, compound, complex, compound-complex), and sentence purpose (declarative, interrogative, imperative, exclamatory).

Thursday: Write out the sentence and explain capitalization and punctuation including end punctuation, commas, semicolons, apostrophes, underlining, and quotation marks.

WEEK OF 9-17:

What are the students learning? 
  • Monday: 
Introduction to the Socratic seminar.  They will learn to respond, listen, and give critical feedback to their peers through questioning. They will be also asked to engage with a topic that we have not addressed and write a response article in return.  
  • Tuesday 
  • From understanding and reading of the 1-10 amendments, B of R, they will present their arguments written form, illustration of their understanding as to which is most necessary and which is least needed. 
  • Wednesday 
  • SWBAT visually and written present posters, that make their arguments clear and understood via advertising or marketing format, writing headlines and article to accompany the posters. 

  • Thursday: Students will practice their writing and read another excerpt, for added information and insight. Identify/analyze skills and knowledge necessary so to write an argumentative essay.  

  • Friday: Students will write a speech, in the form of fdraft of argumentative essay.  It will be paced and with organizers included.

What are the students learning?
• Monday:

• The students will engage with three articles about 9/11 from narrative form, then be asked to write an article that synchronizes two, who share common thought versus the counterpoint member who is in contradiction to them. 
• Wednesday
• SWBAT understand how to practice setting up an argumentative essay, via scaffolding and graphically breaking it down. They will know the essential elements and by group organize the main ingredients, checking in with me for understanding. 

ThursdayStudents will practice their writing and read another excerpt, for added information and insightIdentify/analyze skills and knowledge necessary so to write an argumentative essay. 

• FridayStudents will write their first draft of argumentative essay.  It will be paced and with organizers included.

What are the students learning?
·       Tuesday: Students introduced to teacher, as the facilitator of writing through Legal method.  I will present the course as an “opening statement” in a court case [Main argument-improvement, with these evidence; structure, practice, and critical feedback, thus concluding “course” with vast improvement as writers. They will learn about an effective speech, written and the main tenets of structuring good writing. Practice writing through their Journal writing as a student in progress. 

·       WednesdayPractice of their writing continues through Journal writing done at the start of class.
They will learn how to examine a poem for multiple interpretation and reflect if varied from poetry that they have heard before or music for that matter. Identify/analyze skills and knowledge necessary so to write a definition essay. 


·       Thursday: Students will practice their writing and read another excerpt, analyzing it’s speech interpretation. Identify/analyze skills and knowledge necessary so to write a definition essay. 

·       Friday: Students will write their first draft of argumentative essay.  It will be guided and collaborative.
