What are the students learning?
· Monday: Students introduced to teacher, as the facilitator of writing through Legal method. I will present the course as an “opening statement” in a court case [Main argument-improvement, with these evidence; structure, practice, and critical feedback, thus concluding “course” with vast improvement as writers. They will learn about an effective speech, written and the main tenets of structuring good writing. Practice writing through their Journal writing as a student in progress.
· Tuesday: Practice of their writing continues through Journal writing done at the start of class.
They will learn how to examine a poem for multiple interpretation and reflect if varied from poetry that they have heard before or music for that matter. Identify/analyze skills and knowledge necessary so to write a definition essay.
· Wednesday: Students will practice their writing and read another excerpt, analyzing it’s speech interpretation. Identify/analyze skills and knowledge necessary so to write a definition essay.
· Thursday: Students will write their first draft of argumentative essay. It will be guided and collaborative.
· Friday: Students are introduced to the peer editing/conferencing with myself, that will be carried out through the course of the term, as an integral part of their improvement. Teams, of four, will read their finished work, provide feedback, then meet with me and discuss where they need to focus upon revising their writing.
